An impressively large leafed plant which deserves a beautiful spot in your home. This variety has particularly dramatic dark green leaves with deep purple undersides.

Commonly known as Elephant Ears or Taro, this genus is native to the tropical rainforest of Eastern Australia and Asia.

The root system of Alocasia consist of tuberous rhizomes which store a huge amount excess water and nutrients. For this reason, Alocasia are more prone to overwatering in the UK and the compost should be carefully checked between waterings. They should also be kept at temperatures above 16C.

If kept in the correct conditions these plants are even capable of producing fruit!
